Considering Snake Locomotion with “Continuum Legs”

چکیده
1 Motivation Both legged and limbless animals often exhibit various types of locomotion by adapting to the current circumstances encountered in real time. This ability has been honed by evolutionary selection pressure, and there likely exists an ingenious mechanism that underlies any type of locomotion. Clarifying this mechanism will lead us to elucidate the fundamental principle of animal locomotion as well as to realize “multi-functional robots” that behave like animals.

Multiple-objective Optimization of Serpentine Locomotion with Snake Robot by Using the NSGA
This paper starts with developing kinematic and dynamic model of a snake shape robot in serpentine locomotion and finishes with actual experimentation. At the beginning the symmetrical and unsymmetrical serpenoid curves are introduced. Kinematics and dynamics of a snake robot on flat and inclined surfaces are obtained for a general n-link robot. SimMechanics toolbox of MATLAB software is employ...
متن کاملKinematics Model of Snake Robot Considering Snake Scale
Problem statement: In snake robot research, one of the most efficient forms of locomotion is the lateral undulation. However, lateral undulation, also known as serpentine locomotion, is illsuited for narrow spaces, as the body of the snake must assume a certain amount of curvature to propel forward. Approach: To overcome the inability to adapt to narrow spaces, a novel type of a gait was introd...
متن کاملEfficient Undulating Locomotion Driven by a Decentralized Control That Fully Exploits Multi-articular Muscles
To clarify the mechanism of multi-articular muscles that contributes to the emergence of animal behavior, we focus on the locomotion of a snake. Analyses on the basis of the continuum model show that the body propels efficiently as the number of segments spanned by each muscle increases. On the basis of this result, we propose a decentralized control scheme for the efficient locomotion of a mul...
متن کاملExperimental Study on Control of Redundant 3D Snake Robot based on Kinematic Model
Unique and interesting gait of the snakes makes them able to crawl, climb a hill, climb a tree by winding and move on very slippery floor. Snake does not have hands and legs, however it has many function. It is useful to consider and understand the mechanism of the gait of the snakes for mechanical design and control law of snake robots. Snake robots is active code mechanism and is usefule for ...
متن کاملDynamics and Regulation of Locomotion of a Human Swing Leg as a Double-Pendulum Considering Self-Impact Joint Constraint
Background:Despite some successful dynamic simulation of self-impact double pendulum (SIDP)-as humanoid robots legs or arms- studies, there is limited information available about the control of one leg locomotion. Objective :The main goal of this research is to improve the reliability of the mammalians leg locomotion and building more elaborated models close to the natural movements, by modelin...
